Nov 20 (Reuters) - Rivian Automotive (RIVN.O) said on Monday that CEO RJ Scaringe would directly oversee all product development effective immediately as the electric-vehicle maker gears up to unveil and launch its smaller and cheaper vehicle family. Chief Product Development Officer Nick Kalayjian would move to the role of executive vice president, vehicle engineering and propulsion before transitioning to an advisory role, the company said. "It's a big year for product for Rivian, so RJ is doubling down on the introduction of our new technologies in 2024 and the design and development of R2," a spokesperson for Rivian told Reuters. The company's product reporting structure will include software, autonomy, design, vehicle, electrical, propulsion and programs categories, Rivian said. "I know that (Scaringe) spending more time working with our product teams will create significant value for all of us and our shareholders," Kalayjian, who joined Rivian in 2020, said in another internal email seen by Reuters.

Nov 8 (Reuters) - Swedish electric vehicle maker Polestar trimmed its 2023 delivery forecast on Wednesday to the lower end of its earlier guidance and halved its gross margin target, amid fears of a slowdown in EV demand and global economic uncertainty. Polestar, which operates in 27 markets globally, said it would now deliver about 60,000 vehicles this year, down from between 60,000 to 70,000. It had reiterated that forecast just last month after slashing the target in May from the 80,000 it had estimated earlier. The U.S.-listed company, founded by China's Geely and Volvo Cars (VOLCARb.ST), also said it would achieve a gross margin of 2% in 2023, down from its prior 4% forecast. The company said it sees gross margin in the high teens with a total annual volume of about 155,000 to 165,000 vehicles in 2025.

Oct 26 (Reuters) - Ford (F.N) autoworkers were set to head back to work after the United Auto Workers (UAW) union reached a tentative labor deal with the company late Wednesday. Ford was the first of Detroit's Big Three car manufacturers to negotiate a settlement to strikes joined by 45,000 workers since mid-September. The UAW will now turn its attention to talks with General Motors (GM.N) and Chrysler parent Stellantis (STLAM.MI). The UAW told Ford workers now on strike to return to their jobs during the ratification process. That means production of Ford Super Duty pickups, Ford Bronco and Explorer SUVs and Ranger trucks could restart this week.

"Our strike is working, but we’re not there yet," UAW President Shawn Fain said in a livestreamed update on negotiations with the three automakers. Threatening to strike against GM's Arlington, Texas, plant that makes cash-cow SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade spurred GM to agree that EV battery factories would become union plants with UAW contracts, Fain said. It is the second time in less than a year that Rivian is issuing such a green bond, which raises capital from investors seeking to back climate-focused projects. The company had issued a $1.3 billion convertible green bond in March to support the launch of its smaller R2 vehicle family. The company beat estimates in the third quarter by producing 16,304 vehicles and delivering 15,564 vehicles to customers. As of Sept. 30, Rivian had about $9.1 billion in cash on its balance sheet, down from $10.2 billion in June. The current median price target for the 24 analysts covering Rivian's shares is $30, with a "buy" recommendation, LSEG data showed.

Rivian, which makes R1T pickup trucks and R1S SUVs, delivered 15,564 vehicles in the quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with Visible Alpha estimates of 14,740 vehicles and up 23% from the second quarter. It produced 16,304 vehicles at its facility in Normal, Illinois, up from 13,992 in the second quarter. That means Rivian has to make just more than 12,300 vehicles in the current quarter to hit its full-year target.

"Despite our willingness to bargain Ford and GM have refused to make meaningful progress," Fain said in a video address Friday morning. It began on Sept. 15, when workers struck at one plant each from GM, Ford and Stellantis. The UAW did not strike at Ford distribution facilities last week, citing progress in talks with that company. Analysts estimate GM, Ford and Stellantis earn as much as $15,000 per vehicle on each of their respective large pickup truck models. The Ford assembly plant in Chicago builds the Ford Explorer and Lincoln Aviator SUVs, while the GM plant in Lansing makes the Chevy Traverse and Buick Enclave SUVs.
